Annual General Meeting 2023

VANCOUVER, BC (February 21, 2023) — The third Annual General Meeting of the Landform Design Institute (LDI) will take place Monday, February 27, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. MST. Dr. Gord McKenna, Chair of the Institute, will host the meeting. All members are invited to attend. The agenda is provided below. The meeting will review Institute achievements over 2021-22 and review objectives for 2023.

The keynote speaker will be Christine Daly, an award-winning conservation, reclamation, and community engagement specialist. Dr. Daly is the principal of Daly Reclamation & Reconnection Inc. and a sessional lecturer at the University of Calgary. Her collaborative and innovative approach has led to many environmental improvements in the oil sands industry, including tailings pond reclamation, fen wetland reclamation, and an industry-wide boreal woodland caribou conservation challenge.

Recently, Dr. Daly co-created a participatory and inclusive approach to mine reclamation and closure planning with Fort McKay First Nation co-researchers, called “co-reclamation.” The Co-reclamation Project, and its associated planning tools, explored this approach with Fort McKay First Nation co-researchers to support their stewardship and reclamation of the Fort McKay Traditional Territory in Treaty 8, northeastern Alberta, Canada, which is affected by oil sands mining and in situ activities.
